This is First year of the model 806... first week production...first 35 produced... EXTREMELY RARE!!! Could be the very first of Gold (20 micron) over stainless produced for the model 806 as the starting serial was 868779 in 1956 & this watch is ONLY 868,8xx!!!
Early Rare 1956 First Generation Navitimer 806, Two tone... serial 868,8xx. Incredibly this is the same serial series starting the model 806 Generation in 1956... serial of this icon is less that 40 difference higher into production! This First Generation could be the very first of Gold (20 micron) over stainless produced for the model 806 as the starting serial was 868779 in 1956. It definitely is an extremely rare AOPA! All Black dial as ALL original First Generations were. Manual winding movement caliber Venus 178. 40mm x 48mm with lugs x 12mm.
This First Generation Navitimer 806 was chosen as the official timepiece of AOPA... Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
This iconic First Generation Navitimer 806 remains near the top of virtually every vintage watch collectors wish list! First generation Navitimer 806 internal rotating bezel is a slide-rule navigation computer. It makes complex mathematical calculations useful to pilots. The AOPA emblem (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) truly shows that the Navitimer was an essential onboard tool!
Just serviced by a top USA Breitling master watchmaker... not yet worn since service! New Breitling crystal was also installed.
Breitling vintage experts recently wrote... Thank you for sending the photos. The serial #8688xx was 1955 production. The typed records from Switzerland show the correct movement calibre - Venus 178.
We looked further into the original factory hand-written records and there they do show a batch of gold plated Ref. 806 that includes YOUR serial number. So at the end of the batch of watches from serial number 867779 to 868828 there were a few that they gold plated.
Hope this helps!
